Male - broad black bill with spoon-shaped tip longer than the head. Dark green head and neck, white breast, and rusty-red sides and belly. White flanks and black tail. Gray-blue shoulder patch in flight with green speculum.
Female - broad mottled orange bill like male's. Mottled brown with light wing linings. Gray-blue shoulder patch like male's.
Other Common Names - Spoonbill, Spoonie, Shoveler, Neighbor's Mallards.
Scientific Name - Anas clypeata (a duck with a bill much broader towards the tip than at the base).

Mallard - male has dark brown chest and gray sides with dark blue speculum. Female has dark blue speculum and no shoulder patch in wing.
Blue-winged Teal - female has dark line through eye, pale brown lores and slender blue-black bill.
